And the processed food industry began to capitalize on our need for fast, convenient food. This meant that fewer meals were being cooked at home. And since convenience foods were generally higher in calories than home-...

Check out the Food Playlist: http://bit.ly/2f6XZiy If you like this video subscribe to List25: http://bit.ly/1rPhSQH The term Organic is applied to food grown without harsh pesticides or certain types of pesticides (yes, it also means any carbon based life form, but that's not the definition we're working with today), and in the United States it's a huge business. There are a myriad of reasons why one might choose to eat Organic food - they have a disease like cancer or an autoimmune disorder; they have small children; or they simply don't wish to put a bunch of synthetic chemicals into their bodies. Some scoff at the Organic trend, saying that the amounts of pesticides that remain in our conventionally grown (non-organic) food aren't a big deal, and if they were The Government would do something about it, while others claim it's simply foolishness to pay more for say, a red pepper, because a farmer grows it differently. Regardless of how you feel about Organic food and produce, one thing is for sure: Americans, by and large, have become profoundly disconnected from where their food comes from, and what it takes to get it to the grocery store. So to shed a little light on at least the Organic portion of your shopping cart, here are 25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know. Follow us on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/list25 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/list25 Website: http://list25.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/list25/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/list25/ Check out the physical list here: http://list25.com/25-surprising-facts-about-organic-food/ Contrary to popular belief, and contrary to what the name implies, pesticides are allowed in the growing of USDA Organic approved foods. There are over 40 pesticides on the allowable list that a farm can use and still get the USDA Organic stamp. So if not having pesticides is really important to you, know where your food comes from and what farms use pest control you agree with. Most organic food travels over a thousand miles to get from the farm to your grocery store, and many organics still come from countries like Mexico and China, so if you're eating organic to help the earth, you may want to pay as much attention to where your food comes from. Processed foods labeled as "Organic" - say oatmeal or cookies - can contain up to 5% non-organic ingredients and still qualify to carry the USDA "Organic" label. There aren't any Federal regulations for sustainable or organic seafood because you can't really regulate the ocean contents. So unless it's verified by a third party or farmed seafood, anything that says "Organic" as far as fish and shellfish are concerned is at best bending the truth. It should, however, be noted that there are third parties that rate seafood for sustainability, but again, there's not a US Government standard for this. Bacteria content for organically grown and conventionally grown produce is about the same, according to researchers at Stanford. However, conventionally raised and produced animal products were about 33% more likely to contain antibiotic resistant microbes. Eek! It's still really important to thoroughly wash organic produce. Bacteria is different from pesticides and can make you very sick. All produce has bacteria and dirt on it. Wash your food. And more... And everywhere we are urged to eat organic: it's more nutritious, pesticide-free, and protects animals and the environment. At least, that's what we are being told – or rather, sold. And thanks to a lot of very effective marketing, many people believe it. That's why, when researchers at Cornell University gave study participants a choice between two identical items, one labeled "organic" and one "regular," the participants confidently declared the "organic" choice to be lower in calories and more nutritious. They also said they'd pay 16 to 23 percent more for the organic choice. But these beliefs about organic food have nothing to do with reality. In 2012, Stanford University's Center for Health Policy did the most comprehensive comparison and found organic foods are not nutritionally superior to conventional alternatives. And a more recent review of 20 years of research into animal products by Italian researchers confirmed these findings. The authors concluded: "Scientific studies do not show that organic products are more nutritious and safer than conventional foods." That's fine, you might say. You don't eat organic foods just because of the health benefits, but because you care about the treatment of farm animals and of the environment. Unfortunately, the facts don't support these beliefs either. Animals on organic farms are not generally healthier than regular farms. A five-year US study of dairy farms showed that "health outcomes [for animals on organic farms] are similar to conventional dairies." And the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety reached a similar conclusion. It found "no difference in objective disease occurrence" on organic dairy farms as compared to conventional dairies. And while pigs and poultry on organic farms may enjoy better access to open areas, this freedom, studies show, also increases their exposure to parasites, pathogens and predators. As for the environment, yes, organic farming will mean that in any one field, a farmer will use less energy and create fewer greenhouse gases. But there's a problem here. By forgoing fertilizers and pesticides, organic farming is much, much less efficient than standard farming, which means that organic farmers need much more land to grow the same amount of food. A major study in Europe found that to produce the same gallon of milk organically, you need 59% more land. To produce meat, you need 82% more land. And for crops, it’s more than 200%. And more land for agriculture means less land for nature. If U.S. agricultural production was entirely organic, it would mean we would need to convert an area bigger than the size of California entirely to farmland. Economically, the lower productivity of organics means we have to commit more resources - land, labor and capital. The total cost to the US economy of going organic would run to about $200 billion annually. The Science of Fast Weight Loss eCourse: http://courses.thehealthnerds.com/p/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thehealthnerds/ PRODUCE GUIDE: https://snaped.fns.usda.gov/seasonal-produce-guide On this video, we will be covering organic food, what does organic mean, and answering the question of is organic food healthier. And at the end we’re going to discuss what foods are the most important to eat organic. Let’s get started by answering the question of what does organic mean? Organic food is food produced with the standards of organic farming. Standards vary worldwide, but they general mean food produced without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. http://www.organic.org/home/faq Animals products only qualify as organic if they do not take antibiotics or hormones during their development. Now I should clarify, pesticides can be used by organic farmers on crops, just as long as they are derived from natural sources and are not synthetically created. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/organic Because mass producing crops without ANY pesticides would be a nightmare with wasted food in epic proportions. As my home boys over at ASAP Science so aptly put, just because a bag of chips has the “organic” label on them, does not make them healthy. Cookies, chips, and ice cream are not suddenly good for you because they are organic. But when people ask is organic food healthier, they are usually asking for a comparison of foods like veggies, fruits, and certain animal products. The scientific data we have is actually VERY so split on this issue: The reason: Money money money. MONEY. Monsanto, the famous poster child for evil pesticide producers, makes over 4.5 BILLION dollars in sales yearly and spends an average of 5 million dollars a year in public lobbying. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto When most people say that organic is not healthier for you, they usually cite a Stanford Review done in 2012 that came to conclusion that organic foods are not more nutritious than conventional foods. http://annals.org/aim/article/1355685/organic-foods-safer-healthier-than-conventional-alternatives-systematic-review Although, the study did concede that organic does limit the exposure or pesticides and antibiotic resistant bacteria. A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition is the latest addition to the debate. It’s the largest meta-analysis that has been published on this topic, covering 343 individual studies looking into organic food. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26878105 One of the major conclusions found organic foods could boost a person’s antioxidant intake by up to 40%. One thing in favor of eating organic that these studies can not refute is reducing the amount of pesticides being ingested… On average, pesticides like cadmium had levels 400% lower, respectively, in organic produce than in conventional varieties. Since cadmium is a highly toxic metal that has been linked to an increased risk of everything from Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and hormone disruption, it’s probably a good idea to minimize cadmium in your diet. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24557150 Other study’s have also linked pesticide exposure in children to ADHD and other development problems like low IQ. http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1989564,00.html https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/pesticide-exposure-in-womb-affects-i-q/?_r=0 So, are organic foods healthier for you? Yes! In some studies, they have slightly more nutrients and do minimize our exposure to synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones added to what we eat. So should everyone eat organic? Not really. Cost is an issue for many people. #1. It seems animal products are more important to be organic than veggies. #2. Frozen organic foods are always a little cheaper #3. Use the clean 15 and dirty dozen list for fruits and veggies The Clean 15 are non-organic foods that have minimal pesticide exposure • Avocados • Sweet Corn • Pineapples • CabbageFrozen Sweet Peas • Onions • Asparagus • Mangos • Papayas • KiwiEggplantHoney Dew • Grapefruit • Cantelope • Cauliflower The dirty dozen on the other hand are the foods that have a lot of pesticide load if consumed non-organic. These foods are: • StrawberriesApples • Nectarines • PeachesCeleryGrapesCherries • Spinach • Tomatoes • Sweet bell peppers • Cherry tomatoesCucumbers Cheers!

Get ripped and keep your strength: http://goo.gl/uLzHn6 Hey guys, it's Clark over at Six Pack Shortcuts and today we're gonna talk about organic vs conventional foods. For me, macronutrients (carbs, fats, protein) are one of the most important things.... And as far as organic vs conventional goes, it's all the same. -- 0:24 - Organic means it won't have extra, added hormones and pesticides, but you know, the USDA does have regulations on these foods and how much of the pesticides or hormones can be added... so conventional food, while it might have more, it's definitely not going to kill you... And if you just rinse your produce before you eat them, you can wash off most of those pesticides. 1:04 - So if you prefer to do organic, hormone free, certified whatever..... In my opinion it's just marketing tricks to overprice your food. 1:24 - People are always asking how can they lose weight and extra body fat... And when I ask them what they eat, they say they eat "pretty healthy"... but what does that actually mean? "Organic," or not a lot of saturated fats, or not high fatty foods? What it DOESN'T mean is "lean" - just because you're eating "healthy" it doesn't mean you're eating LEAN because eating to get generally healthy and eating to get lean and ripped are definitely very different ways of eating. 2:10 - The difference: eating to get lean is more focused on macronutrient content, like how many carbs, protein, and fat you eat in your diet. 3:07 - Learn to read labels. Brands don't really matter too much (while some may use better quality ingredients, but that's aside the point), but you need to be able to figure out what you're eating, how much of each macronutrient is in the food or meal, and what that means for you and your diet. 3:40 - A lot of things you think are healthy or "good for you" are actually pretty detrimental to your goals. 4:07 - If you're on a strict diet and you don't get a large variety of foods, then take a multivitamin to ensure you have all the necessary nutrients to lose fat, gain muscle, and be the healthiest version of yourself and not be deficient on any vitamins and minerals. 5:07 - If this is something you're interested in (reading labels & macronutrients for your physique) let us know in the comments! -- How normal guys can get lean fast: http://goo.gl/uLzHn6 Thanks for tuning in again this week, guys - Getting rid of your belly fat can seem like a difficult task and believe me, before I discovered the most effective diets and exercise tips, I was on the struggle bus too... But all that has changed. And it can change for you too. To find out how you can shed off excess body fat faster than ever, check this out: http://goo.gl/uLzHn6 Thanks for watching! Many of my friends and family will only touch organic food. That's their right, and I don't try to fight with them. I sometimes get uncomfortable, though, when they make claims about organic food that just aren't supported by data and evidence. Moreover, I think arguing with anyone who is attempting to eat more fruits and vegetables that theirs are in some way "not good enough" is counter-productive. Processed Food Documentary: Processed Food vs. Nutritional Needs. The human body runs on food. Once, food shortage was the major concern. After the second world war, technological advances in food production led to a new era, that was characterized by an overabundance of inexpensive food, and relatively little physical activity. In the decades that followed, other sociocultural shifts continued to contribute to the changing way we ate. Women who had previously controlled most of the average family's food preparation now entered the workforce in significant numbers. And the processed food industry began to capitalize on our need for fast, convenient food. This meant that fewer meals were being cooked at home. And since convenience foods were generally higher in calories than home-cooked meals, the average person's caloric intake increased dramatically. It's widely believed that organic foods are more nutritious and safer than non-organic foods, even though the evidence is far from clear. Food certified as organic sometimes costs twice as much as conventional products. Bloomberg QuickTake explains why the premium prices may not be buying everything that’s promised. ---------- Like this video? Making the transition from conventional to organic foods can be intimidating and overwhelming but it doesn't have to be. In this video I share some tips on how to begin making the switch to organic foods as well as the foods that have the most pesticides. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will help you the best I can. I'm learning as I go, too so any advice you have for me would be appreciated! *GMO's are Genetically Modified Organisms (as per the nongmoproject.org website) that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants or animals. What is Organic Food - The Many Benefits of Organic Food -- http://www.noahhammond.com Today is about health and why you absolutely, without a doubt, must start buying and eating organic food only. This is something that I just woke up to, I would say about a year ago. I know a lot of people are still in the dark about this so I felt that it was really something that I had to get out there. This is REALLY important and it is going to save you potentially a lot of strife down the road and a lot of health problems. The Benefits of Organic Food -- More than Health! The first obvious benefit is simply nutrition. The way that industrial farming is done, they plant the same crop on the same soil over and over and over and over again. They stuff it full of fertilizers and they do not allow the natural cycle of composting, decomposing, and crop cycling to occur. The way farming is supposed to be done is you farm a crop and then you allow the soil to replenish by composting and rejuvenating it with lots and lots of nutrients. To do that, you must allow organic material to decompose there. Then, you plant another crop and you cycle the crops so that you can keep doing this. In industrial farming, they do the exact opposite which is planting the same crops in the soil continuously. If you can compare this to anything, it would be trying to get all of your nutrition from vitamins only. It simply does not work. Your body can't take only vitamins and get what it needs. In fact, vitamins are BAD for you. The same thing happens when they try to stuff the soil with fertilizers to make these plants have the nutrition they need. The end result is that the food they grow, while it LOOKS the same, its nutritional value is NOWHERE near the same. The most extreme example of this is a study they did at Rutgers University where tomatoes that were grown organically had about 2,000 parts per billion of iron to one, compared to only 1 part per billion in the non-organic tomatoes. Obviously, if you were eating tomatoes thinking you were getting your iron (essential for our health and balance), you were wrong. The inorganic tomatoes do not even have any because they are not even in the soil. So, number one is nutrition. What is that going to affect? It is going to affect disease. Diseases come only from two things - either TOXICITY or DEFICIENCY. If you don't get your vitamins and minerals, you become deficient. If you are deficient for long enough, your body can't maintain balance and you are going to get diseases. So, not eating organic food is going to cause you to have more disease. This is just proven. This is just factual. The tests are out there. The data is out there. So you want to get organic food for that alone. Now, another thing you want to understand is that the pesticides they use on these inorganic plants. They are very difficult to get off the food and a lot of times people do not prepare and scrub as diligently as they need to. You end up consuming these chemicals. At this point, it's even showing up in people's urine. It's showing up all over the place. People are really just getting inundated with these HARMFUL chemicals. That's going to cause toxicity. Again, you can only get sick or get disease as a result of toxicity or deficiency. Therefore, from the lack of nutrients, you'll have deficiency and from the chemicals, you'll get toxicity. So, inorganic food is a double whammy right there. Lastly and really most CRITICALLY, is that inorganic food can be genetically modified which other countries around the world have banned. In the United States though, we are inundated with it. A HUGE quantity of our food supplies are genetically modified, especially from corporations like Monsanto. These genetically modified foods are proven to cause CANCER and other issues. They are abundant in our food supply. So, if you are not buying organic and natural foods, you are likely getting something that was farmed in a way that it has almost has no nutrition, that is covered in pesticides and other harmful chemicals, and then it is genetically modified in a way that does not deliver to your body what it needs and actually causes cancer. All three of those combined could be a really, really powerful case for trying to buy only organic foods. Now I only eat organic foods and I have actually developed the ability to tell when I am eating something that is not organic. My body can sense the difference in nutrition. It is actually blatantly OBVIOUS to me at this point. I know this to be true from experience, not just from reading...
